New beds, lawn restoration, fencing, grading, and hardscape projects may be easier after the stump is reduced.
Regrowth and decay
Some species can send up sprouts from remaining roots or the stump. Over time, the wood also decays and can leave a depression.
Choose depth based on the future use
A shallow grind may be enough for lawn restoration, while construction or replanting may call for a different plan.
